This year, veteran staff rider Richard Pearman, is 'Living with' the heritage Italian brand, Santini Maglificio Sportivo (Santini for short). Here is his first blog piece in the series...

The Santini Heritage

Santini (SMS Santini) – The Italian brand dates back to 1965, and was founded by Pietro Santini. It is a heritage brand, steeped in history; and associated with so many legendary riders, pro teams and events. To name just a few of Santini's supported causes and teams, the names include: Team Lotto Jumbo, the UCI World Tour events such as the Tirreno-Adriatico, Milan-San Remo and the Giro D'Italia. Also, since the 1990's, Santini has been the official partner of the UCI; supplying all the championships jerseys for all the disciplines of cycling; be it Road, MTB, BMX, Cyclocross, Track, and more…

With the reputation of Santini, I was thrilled and grateful to be given the opportunity to be part of Wiggle's 'Living with' program wearing a selection of Santini's products from their SS16 range.

The first ride-out in Santini

During May, I have to admit that I haven't worn the Santini kit too much; due to my Team Wiggle racing duties, both midweek and at weekends. However, now we've entered the months of June, July, August and September, this will most certainly change.

My first ride out in the Santini kit was at the North Downs Sportive, and the kit featured in the above image is as follows:

Review: Santini Atom 2 UV Protection Short Sleeve Jersey

Love this jersey. Why? Well, because the material is super soft and cool, and the fit is great. It's not overly aggressive as regards to tightness, and it's not too body-hugging; it is a bit more relaxed, which is really comfortable when riding, especially in the heat.

The jersey is also extremely light, and benefits from an ergonomic construction; with an elongated back that features a silicone elasticated gripper and three pockets. The Atom 2 jersey, for me, delivers excellent performance, and thanks to the Dragon weave material and the Resistex Bioceramic fabric, keeps me feeling fresh (and cool) during my rides.

Review: Santini Photon 2 Bibshorts

This bibshort fits superbly around my legs and lower torso, and during the lengthy 90 mile sportive ride it delivered me sublime riding comfort, without any problems or discomfort whatsoever. The material used, which is the Thunderbike Power fabric, is so comfortable that I was extremely impressed. The shorts gave superior compression, a great overall fit, and thanks to the leg grippers and aerodynamic cut, great performance.

Another great feature of the Photon2 bibshorts are the straps. They are superb. I love the cotton elasticated and semi wide straps because they deliver great comfort and a feeling of strength - keeping everything together and in place.

Finally the chamois, probably the most important part of any cycling short. Satini use their C3 chamois in the Photon 2; it uses a new process called Carving Technology, and to keep this brief, it is superb.

The sportive ride was the first outing for me, and as I have already said, I had no problems at all. An incredibly comfortable pair of cycling shorts and for any long distance riding, these will be my first choice for sure.

Review: Santini Mania Gel Summer Mitts

The Santini Mania Gel gloves are great. They look good, feel good, and they do what they are supposed to do - provide hand comfort. The mesh top panel gives great ventilation, and is ideal in hot conditions; whilst the small nodules on the palm side provide the grip, with the gel giving the padding I require.

I also prefer the type of wrist band that the Santini glove offers as it's a solid elasticated band, which grips the wrist perfectly and remains in place throughout the ride.  A no-nonsense pair of traditional cycling gloves which are practical and comfortable.

Review: Santini Comp 2 Profile Socks

These are a great pair of high-length socks, which feel soft, and look great. I have to say, it's a bit of a culture change for me as regards wearing high length socks; I've always worn shorter socks; but I'm kicking that old-school habit for the new way of wearing cycling socks as regards length.
