In this staff review, Ed Tibbitts takes a look at the exciting new Under Armour Speedform Europa City Shoes. With 'Record Equipped' technology, they are a bit special!

---

If you've not heard of Under Armour before, they are an American based brand who have a background in NFL, and more recently football, athletics, fitness and now a number of other sports.

They focus on technical fabrics and quality manufacturing, and their products are used by a number of top level athletes in elite sport.

I was super exited when the run team asked me to test the new Speedform Europa City Record from Under Armour for spring. I've had them for a few weeks now, so here's a look at some of the key features, and my first impressions.

The shoe

The Speedform Europa City Record have a very comfortable fit; with a flexible upper that helps the foot to feel stable but not constrained; almost a sock like feel with a wingtip tongue, instead of the usual narrow tongue you find in the majority of run shoes.

They have a comfortable cushioned sole, to absorb the shock of the tarmac. The toe box is also very breathable, and offers great ventilation when moving. The toe box area is also nicely shaped and has some protection right at the end to stop you stubbing your toes.

I like the design; it is mostly black, which goes with most other run kit. The shoe looks quite basic from the front, but has a crazy heel cup design with 70's style graphics.

The fit seems a little bigger than true to size. I'm usually a UK8, and 7.5 was a comfortable fit.

The technology (Record Equipped)

Where this shoe really steps forward is the Record technology, which is built into the Speedform Europe City Shoes for SS17.

This shoe has an integration with MapMyRun. You simply download the App, and create an account with MapMyRun; you then connect the shoes with the App, and off you go.

When using the app with the shoes, you get data back from your runs on time, cadence, duration, distance, split times, and the wear life of your shoe.

The shoe also has a built in GPS tracker, so itself tracks up to 5 separate runs for you without having to sync to the app. You can upload these after your run using Bluetooth. This makes the whole process of running and making the most of your time very easy. You don't have to remember to bring anything else with you apart from the shoes!

The integration with the MapMyRun software is brilliant. There is so much data to get back from your run, and you can really track your performance easily, analyse your results, and set targets for improvement.

I'd recommend these shoes for people who really enjoy tracking their running progress and analysing their data, and runners who like to just go and run with little interruption in an already busy life.

Perfect for those 5km and 10km runs. Just put them on and go!
