Last month, a small group of Wigglers left the seaside and green hedgerows of Wiggle’s Hampshire HQ, and flew to somewhere quite different: a land of glaciers, fjords and mountains… Norway!
Why? Because the Scandinavian setting had been selected to provide the backdrop for Wiggle’s latest photoshoot. The snow-capped mountains, winding roads and icy lakes would form the perfect setting to showcase the great new Autumn/Winter apparel that is soon to hit the Wiggle warehouse. It would also provide a fantastic environment to show off the new category of products that is soon to be launched at Wiggle… Outdoor!
Outdoor: a new exciting range at Wiggle
Outdoor is an exciting new range that is launching at Wiggle this autumn. It is a casual clothing range, focussed on the great outdoors; containing products like down jackets, waterproof trousers, beanies, fleeces and shoes. Products which, whether you’re a cyclist, swimmer or runner, would provide great comfort and function before or after your training session or race, as well as being great kit to get out and explore in!
Adventure in Norway
Our shoot location was about a six hour drive north of Oslo, close to the stunningly beautiful Geirangerfjord. An early morning flight from the UK, and a day of driving, saw us arrive at our quaint little mountain hotel in the middle of the National park. Just enough time to build four bikes, grab some food and then get our heads down before an action-packed two day shoot commenced!
The locations for our shoot had been handpicked by the production team, and included river-side shots, dusty trails and stunning switchbacks. They all tied together, to show what this diverse and beautiful country has to offer; as well as providing the best possible backdrop for the broad set of run, swim and cycle clothing that we were featuring.
The two days of shooting all blended into one, in all honesty. One minute we were up at dawn shooting next to the nearby river, the next we were running across mountain pastures and riding down dried up glaciers. It was a manic, action packed schedule, which featured more outfit changes and more hill repetitions that I normally do in a month! The results were fantastic though, and they’re best shown through the imagery and video footage that came back from the shoot.
A memorable trip
There are two things that I enjoy more than most: riding my bike, and eating good food. Norway offered the opportunity to do both, and we experienced great examples on the shoot.
OK, so I think I only rode 25km in total over the two days, but the flavour of the riding that Norway has to offer, was enough to make me very keen to return on a touring bike sometime soon.
Similarly, we were only in the country for a few days, but the opportunity to taste the beautiful fresh salmon and the surprisingly tasty Elk burger (!) that Norway had on offer, made me keen to come back and experience more of the Norwegian cuisine.
A few small taster of Norway, that left me yearning for more!
Peak Performance Packable down jacket is #goodstuff
We tried a number of the new items from the Outdoor range during the shoot, as well as some new 2015 autumn and winter riding/running kit and our new Eastway road bikes that are soon to come into stock.
It’s tough to pick a favourite, but I think the Peak Performance Frost Down (AW15) was a real highlight. Whether we were waiting around for the sun to come up, or driving to the airport, that was the jacket that I kept reaching for. It’s a top of the range piece of kit, but the detailing, styling and feel, is superb. It’s going to take some self-restraint to stop me shelling out and ordering one, when they come into stock later this month!
Norway was a fantastic place to visit, and delivered all that we had hoped for: stunning vistas, alpine riding and spectacular backdrops. I’m not sure why the Vikings ever left…
