For those of you familiar with the old Conti X-King, we're pleased to say the Cross King is an updated version and the tread pattern is the same and still uses the Black Chili Compound. One of the main differences however, is that the new Cross King's are more grippy. This tyre is fast on flat terrain and its lateral lugs make it fast and safe when cornering. They're built as a cross country and trail tyre, meaning they're very durable but they're also very lightweight and are tubeless-ready.
Best for: XC / Enduro
The Schwalbe Nobby Nic Super Ground Tyre is part of Schwalbe's 'super series' with the ADDIX Speedgrip compound. Known to offer fantastic cornering thanks to the side grip, these tyres also are lightweight but offer a cushioned feel that adapts to different terrain easily and absorbs impact well. These tyres are fast but also give outstanding braking and forward traction.
Best for: Trails / XC
The tread pattern and tuned rubber durometers on the Hutchinson Kraken are designed to go fast. The centre lugs are short and tight which helps improve straight-line traction whereas the side knobs are much bigger which will benefit added bite in corners. The Kraken tyre has a large volume to give more traction and allow you to ride with lower pressure. Hutchingson have been making tyres since 1890 (!) so know a thing or two about keeping them lightweight too. This tyre is recommended for use on the front wheel and will help with the transition from the centre to the side around corners to be a smooth ride.
Best for: XC / Trails
The Barzo XC tyre has been crafted using a compound called Graphene 2.0. which is a material known for its unparalleled grip in all conditions. It offers fast rolling speed and is lightweight and is therefore great as a cross country racing tyre. The tread pattern is aggressive and suits demanding and technical courses. It can be used for both front and back wheels and offers incredible bite into corners as well as fewer pinch flats when running at a lower pressure.
Best for: XC
The Pirelli Scorpion XC RC has a tread pattern ideal for contact when cornering as it has a closely spaced centre tread, open transition knobs and more aggressive side knobs. This means they roll fast, but are stable around corners and on uneven terrain. Pirelli have created the tyre using their ProWall sidewall reinforcement technology which increases puncture protection as well as helping you manoeuvre at low pressure. The tyres were developed together with the Trek-Pirelli MTB team racers and the result is a lightweight all-rounder.
