Wiggle proud to extend sponsorship of the world’s number one women’s cycling team.
The newly named Wiggle High5 women’s professional cycling team is delighted to announce that it will be embarking on the 2016 season as the number one UCI ranked team in the world, following an unmatched 35 victories on the UCI Women's World Tour in 2015.
Long established main sponsor, Wiggle, the world's leading online cycle and tri-sports retailer, is pleased to welcome market leading nutrition brand High5 as a new, named sponsor in 2016. Additionally, Champion System will join the team as official clothing partner - providing the team with its full race and casual clothing requirements.
Rochelle Gilmore, Team Managing Director and founder, has used the winter break to make a number of key signings to strengthen Wiggle High5 for the season ahead. These include Swedish National Champion Emma Johansson who joins the team for her final year in the pro peloton; two-time junior road race world champion Lucy Garner from Great Britain; and highly regarded Dutch rider Amy Pieters.
The rest of the roster remains unchanged for 2016 with riders from ten countries representing Wiggle High5 in its distinctive black and orange livery. Familiar faces include Jolien D’Hoore who enjoyed an outstanding first season with the team in 2015 - scoring 13 wins in total to become the most prolific winner in the women’s peloton; Annette Edmondson who finished the Tour Down Under with the Green Sprinter’s Jersey; Elisa Longo Borghini who topped the podium at the prestigious Tour of Flanders; Giorgia Bronzini who clinched the team’s fourth World Cup win at the Tour of Chongming Island and also won Acht van Westerveld and two stages of the Route de France; Audrey Cordon-Ragot who claimed victory at the Cholet Pays de Loire Dames; Mayuko Hagiwara and Mara Abbott, who won stages at the Giro Rosa.
According to Gilmore, “I had an ambition in 2012 to create the most professional women’s cycling team in the world, increase salaries for athletes and become the world number one UCI team within 3 years. These goals have now been reached but we believe that the season ahead represents an opportunity for both the riders and the team to reach a completely new level. We’ll be doing all we can to support our riders’ main goals and creating a team environment that will ensure success on the road.”
Harvey Bennett, Chief Marketing and Sales Officer at Wiggle, says, “Wiggle has sponsored the team from its beginning three years ago to achieving their goal of World No.1 ranking whilst promoting women’s cycling. Wiggle is very pleased to extend the successful partnership with the Team into 2016. Wiggle High5 will be the Team to beat once the season begins and signings, old and new, mean there are riders who can win and support the Giro, Grand Tours and Classics.”
