It's that time of year! Time to plan ahead: for a New Year, a new you, a new set of objectives!
Don't worry, we've all got that similar feeling… wishing we hadn't had that extra mince pie, or that fifth glass of mulled wine. Christmas gluttony has taken its toll. Don't worry though, there is plenty of time to make amends!
Hopefully you've managed a little bit of cycling over the festive break, and you're looking forward to putting in more miles in the New Year. Even if you haven't managed to get out on the bike, it's not the end of the world; just start soon! To provide you with some added motivation, we've put together a five point plan, to get you motivated!
1. Get your bike prepared
Even if your body feels like a sloth, after all those Christmas indulgences; there is no reason that your bike should feel ropey too. Make some time to get your ride back in tip-top condition.
Get to know your bike and how it works; perhaps learn how to fix something that you haven't tried to do before. Read our How To Guides here, to learn the basics: everything from 'How to fix a puncture', right through to our full 'Sportive Maintenance Checklist'.
Don’t forget stock up on some spares and essentials, you’re probably going to need them!
2. Get your body prepared
Any ride, and any distance is possible; you just need to have a good plan of attack. Getting back on the road to fitness starts with your training plan. For a simple, and easy to follow routine, check out our 'Beginners' Sportive Training Guide'.
3. Choose your objective
Once you've selected a training plan that looks challenging, but achievable; then you can begin looking at our Events Calendar for 2017! Time to set an objective!
Having a date in the calendar is always good for motivation. Get a group of mates together, and find a ride, set the date, and get training. Having a group of friends to motivate you to ride more, is a great way to increase your commitment.
4. Plan some diversity
A year is a long time, so think about planning in a mix of objectives throughout the season; that could be different lengths, or perhaps even different disciplines within cycling, running or OCR.
Wiggle has a calendar of over 40 events throughout the year; including road sportives, mountain bike events, trail running days and triathlon challenges. Take your pick! Variety is the spice of life!

A bit about two of our best sportive series...
Wiggle Super Series
The Wiggle Super Series encourages riders of all levels to get out and ride! Established in 2006, the series has grown rapidly to incorporate 42 superb events in 2017 (36 Road and 6 MTB). Every event offers a variety of course lengths and difficulty levels allowing participants to choose a challenge that suits them. Routes are extremely well marked and easy to follow.
New for 2017, Wiggle Super Series has added two new distances for the Magnificat and the new Sussex Grand Fondo; both allowing for 124 miles of hassle free riding, if you are up to the challenge?
With all Wiggle Super Series events there are well stocked feed stations, with free food and energy drink, and full mechanical support; giving everyone peace of mind throughout the day.
Those taking part can simply enjoy a great ride with other cyclists, over a fantastic course; letting us take all of the hassle out of a day on the bike.
